tried connecting ipod touch to mac to transfer music from i tunes, but this comes up The iPod “Stephen's iPod touch” cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes. Ipod is brand new and i think version is POS.9.21. Please help.

Hi, am a bit of a mug when it comes to computers and stuff. I had the macbook pro about 5 years ago i think its snow leopard , the i tunes i have tried deleting on the mac and updating it but the same version keeps coming back. not sure how too see what version it is . any idea how i do this please?
I think the i tunes is version 11.4 , but when i go to file and then devices its not showing my i pod
